Hyderabad is dry for most of the year, and that suits cats far better than a humid coastal city does, with one catch. The bore water most of the city runs on is mineral-heavy, and a Persian bathed in it at home often ends up with a coat that feels coarse and looks dusty within days, which owners then try to fix with another bath. Cats need very few baths to begin with. Most of what a Hyderabad cat actually needs is combing, mat control and nails, done without a carrier ride, and that is what the Rs. 2,000 session is built around.

Cat grooming is still a new idea for a lot of Hyderabad households, and the most frequent thing we hear on a first call is a variation of whether cats need grooming at all. Our honest answer is that a short-coated Indian cat in a Kukatpally or Miyapur flat mostly needs nails and an occasional comb, while a Persian or Himalayan in Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills, where those breeds are concentrated, genuinely does need regular de-matting whatever her owner has been told. The dry climate helps in one respect: coats mat more slowly here than in Chennai or Mumbai. It hurts in another, since dry indoor air plus hard water produces the dandruff along the spine that we see constantly in the Gachibowli and Kondapur apartments.
