Two Chennai habits shape what we do. The first is beach walking, which is common from Besant Nagar through Adyar, and the sand and salt left in the coat and between the toes cause more irritation than the sea itself. We will tell you to rinse with plain water after every trip and book a proper bath every two to three weeks rather than washing daily. The second is the sheer number of floppy-eared breeds here, Cockers, Bassets and Retrievers, whose ear canals never dry out. Along the OMR stretch and Sholinganallur, where a lot of the newer apartment stock is, we also see the same dog groomed too rarely in summer because the owner worries about the heat, when the safest answer is simply grooming at home with the fan on.
