Chennai is one of the hardest tick cities in India for a simple reason: there is no cold season to break the cycle. Warm, humid conditions let the brown dog tick breed continuously, so instead of a season you get a permanent baseline with a spike after the northeast monsoon from October through December. Fleas behave the same way, and a household that clears them in March will often see them back by May. This is a grooming treatment at Rs. 2,500, not veterinary care, and a heavy infestation belongs with a vet.

The Chennai homes we struggle with most are ground-floor houses with a compound or a garden, common in Adyar, Besant Nagar and the older parts of Anna Nagar and T Nagar, because ticks survive in the wall cracks and shaded soil right outside the door all year. Apartment dogs along OMR, Velachery and Porur have a different version of the same problem in the basement and the landscaped common strip. Humidity also matters for the treatment itself: after an anti-tick bath, the coat has to be force-dried completely, or the damp undercoat left behind creates the yeasty skin trouble this city is already prone to. Our groomers do the tick work and the full dry in the same visit, then tell you which corners of the house are keeping the cycle going.
